Those that do tend to pick their days carefully.
Nothing too windy. Spray is no fun in January.
However, tucked behind a nice dodger, a clear day can be very nice. No thunderstorms, no bugs, no power boat wakes.
The only distance cruising tends to be delivery trips - people sailing with purpose. Overnight can be peaceful, but the nights are long and you will want a good heater. I winterize the potable water system (bottles only) and flush with very weak AF.

As we are avid skiers in the Interior of BC we have trouble getting out sailing in the winter. I had a great day of sailing last december in the morning and then went skiing in the afternoon. By March we are sailing again regularily.
Will probably do the same this winter a couple of times...the winds are great in the winter but the snow is better!

|T37Chef||This will be the first year I intend to keep the boat "sail ready". We'll see if we actually use it, like JP says, winter is usually our time to do other things like skiing|

|JohnRPollard||We put our boat to bed and pursue other interests during the winter months. Nine months of sailing is enough for us.|

|night0wl||Year round sailing here in Fort Lauderdale...might have to wear long sleeves a few days a year, but nothing dramatic.|

I typically sail almost all winter long. Most winters there is a week or two when the creek freezes solid and obviously I don't go out during that period of time.

|nickmerc||If I was not working on any major projects during the winter I would be sailing. I see several of the more serious sailors in my area sailing during the winter.|
