danjarch Check the adds in the back of "Wooden Boat" and other sailing mags. They often have postings for crew.

AJones91 Thanks very much for the responses so far folks. I live about 2 hrs from the ocean so I have to see if I can get some certifications without having to be on the water and such...

Tall ships will teach you what you need to know.

I'd highly recommend you get some certifications, like the STCW 95, CPR, First Aid, etc... as these will make you more desirable as a crew person. In fact, they may be required for some of the commercial ship positions.

Looking to acquire deckand position for summer

Hello, I am trying to get a job as a deckhand from June to late August preferrably. I am a 18 yr old, male college student in the U.S. looking to satisfy my sense of adventure and love of the sea. I am fairly strong, very hard working and enthusiastic to learn a great deal about boating. I do not have much prior experience, but am a quick learner. I am open to working on pretty much any sort of vessel, but a yacht or cruiseliner is preffered. If anyone out there is interested in hiring me for the summer or knows someone who might be PLEASE shoot me a message. Thank you!
