islands50 I have one alternator charging which ever battery selected. Also a 2 output AC charger. After one bank is charged does the charger go down to a trickle charge for both?

Zanshin How do you charge the banks? Do you have one alternator and then an echo device, or a charger with an echo or perhaps separate outputs? Most bigger boats have a battery and a house bank that have different capacities and, more often than not, different batteries. This is not a problem if the two banks are charged with a smart device and are not usually combined.

Battery Banks

Is it OK to have different sized battery banks. I have two banks. One with 2 batteries and one with one battery. All duel purpose wet cells. 3 batteries at 65 amp each. (195 amp hrs) I need to replace the two batteries . To get more amps I was going to use two 6 volts deep cycle. (230 amps) Plus the 65 amps on the single battery bank. 295 total. How does this effect charging?
