WhatTheFoley I've traveled with my iPhone a lot (basically the same as an iTouch when you don't have cell coverage). It worked great as a way to communicate. When I was in China and Peru, I was able to send e-mail and more importantly... Skype (.02$ a min from China and Peru to a US land line). On top of that, it's compact, travels very well, and can go for a really long time on batteries.

edguy3 You can also get a microphone for your iPod touch and use a program like truphone to call home over WiFi.

(disclosure: I work for truphone.)

seabreeze_97 Yep. Posting this msg on my iTouch via my home wifi. To be fair, any wifi device can do it, but few will fit in your pocket. Also, public wifi tends to be lacking in security, so no sensitive data or access (banking, etc) should be handled on public wifi. Otherwise it's popping up everywhere and is a great tool.

alwheeler98 As long as you have access to wi-fi you'd have access to email.

My husband liked his ITouch so much we both got IPhones.
