I'll second Gene's recommendation of Starboard over PVC. I've used it for many things and secure it with screws and seal it with Life Caulk. Whatever the chemical in good old "Super Glue" is - that will stick to Starboard but I've always used fasteners to be sure.

Isn't PVC used for just about everything on the exterior of houses now and doing ok? I know it turns yellow and chalky but so does gel coat!

PVC won't stand up to UV. I like Starboard and find lots of uses for it but it does not bond to anything. You can still get a good compression seal however.

Stanchion base mounting blocks
My pushpit's two forward-most stanchions are mounted to teak blocks between the stanchion base and the deck. The blocks taper to the slope of the deck from about 1/2" to 3/4" thick. They're in poor condition and I'd like to replace them with something lower maintenance. I've considered fashioning replacements from solid PVC trim or star board. Does anyone have any opinions on which would be best or have any other alternatives?
Also, I figure that bedding this new plastic block to the deck may actually be a legitimate use for 5200. I'd then bolt the stanchion base through the plastic block, the deck, and a backing plate and bed it with butyl tape. Does this make sense?
