CaptainForce Lots of choices here, but our favorite is to anchor in Ft. Lauderdale's Lake Sylvia to await good weather (no northerly against the Gulfstrem current). We take a 9 hr run to West End with about 6.5 kts and the ride with the Gulfstream and clear customs at Old Bahama Bay Marina. From here we head for Green Turtle Cay and to the "Sea of Abaco" with short day access to Hopetown, Man-O-War, Little Harbor, Great Guana & Marsh Harbor and regular flights for guests in and out from south Florida to either the Treasure Cay or Marsh Hbr airports. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

First trip to Bahamas, planned for December

This will be the first time that we sail from Florida to the Bahamas. We are from the West Coast so we would love any suggestions. We are sailing in early December with family to join us mid December during their school break. We are just starting the planning so we wanted expert advice from the beginning. Which city to depart, which island(s) to visit while the family is still with us. We are planning that they will fly to the islands from Miami so that they are not waiting on weather. We will continue for a few months after they return to school. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
