jdeatsch Be VERY afraid.

Take a basic course in DC electrics, really.

FoggyBottom I knew little about boat electrical when I started on our P26 last year. I bought "Sailboat electronics simplified" by Don Casey and an ampmeter and was able to work my way through 95% of it without any issues. I'd suggest those two tools at a minimum.

If you look in the saved files of the p28forum on Yahoo there is a pdf copy of the manual. Lots of good p28 sailors too that are willing to share experiences.

Got the manual!

I was able to find a fuse from the starter ignition to the engine (underneath the engine) - although intact, it was pulled apart. Put that back together.

Next to it was a small blue wire that had also pulled apart at its crimp point. Put that back together. Still no light and no power at ignition.

Someone said something about jump starting the engine directly off the battery, but I'm not sure how to do that - just to see if the ignition was truly the problem - I needed to get another head unit anyways since my tach has is totally flakey.

Also - where should one buy one of these Yanmar b-type panels?

Thanks Caleb. I've already bought one new battery (starter), and will watch for the charging. I'm probably going to use this opportunity to replace a lot of things.

I'm going to take a picture of how I have the starter wired at this point and ask around for any advice on that wiring since I'm still having a hard time figuring some of it out.

CalebD Keep in mind that you very well may have cooked your batteries by shorting them out if they were connected improperly for a while. There may not be enough juice left to turn your engine over.
Another pitfall is you may have fried the diodes in your alternator so no battery charging even if you get your engine running.
New batteries and having your alternator serviced may be in your future. Clearly labeling your battery cables is a good idea.

Thanks for the PDF. Didn't quite have what I needed so still looking for the 28-2 manual.

Also, thanks for sending the other link. I'd seen that (I do do my research before posting) but couldn't get "accepted" to that user group - at least not yet. Also, I still need to do 5 posts to PM that guy. Actually, I guess I'm up to 2 now, if I just bump a couple of times...
