AC Through hull

I'm close to completion of a 2 year effort to bring this '86 37 back to life. My next project is installing a through hull for a future AC. But IMHO, there are enough through hulls already. Has anyone considered sacrificing the speed sensor through hull and using it for AC raw water intake? It's located in the right place. The chart plotter and even my iPhone for that matter will give me my speed. I'm probably overlooking something obvious?

...yeah, you want both Speed Thru Water and Speed Over Ground... but along your lines of thinking, if you have separate transducers for Speed, Temp, Depth, you could upgrade to a combined unit like Airmar's DST800 and free up a thru hull for your AC thru hull...
