Armchairsailor2 Bear in mind that the 30 and half tonner were different boats - google Grimalkin for a half tonner and look at teh difference.

mitiempo TQA

The listing is for the cruising 30' C&N,NICHOLSON 30 sailboat on More than 6000 sailboats, sailing yachts, dinghies and sailing craft listed. not the racing half tonner they produced.Nicholson half-tonner archive data - Yachtsnet Ltd. online UK yacht brokers - yacht brokerage and boat sales Faster has it right - the big brother to my boat in many ways.

The engine does look like a bit of a relic though. Expensive parts as well.

jcwhite I did not, in the end - my weekend looking-trip fell through. I haven't made it over yet, but I likely won't any more. TQA's warning about engines put me off (they're my weakest maintenance point, so I'm making sure the engine I end up with will require the least of it. Yeah, I know that Murphy will bite my *** for trying). Finally, I'm in negotiations on a Cal 2-29 that looks like she should be suitable. Unless that falls through, I likely won't go a-hunting too far.

Armchairsailor2 JC - did you go and have a look at her? What news?

TQA Engine would put me off a bit. That is an OLD Volvo with notoriously pricy spares and the alternator / dynastart contraption will have most engineers scratching their heads in disbelief.

Designed to race more than cruise and a lot came with rod rigging.

There is a C&N owners group on Yahoo I think.

Faster She's listed as a Ray Wall design.. no surprise, she really looks like an oversized CS 27, and that's a good boat. In case you're unaware, he went on to found CS yachts and is the designer of the CS 27, 33 and 36T - all well respected boats, as is his last project the Quanta 28

He is retired and lives in your area.. if you look into the CS yachts websites you'll likely find some contact info. He's a gentleman and may well be able to discuss that boat with you. You might even find him in the phone book.

Thoughts on this boat?

The seller is only the second owner, and it spent fifteen years (up until five years ago) on the great lakes. There's a fair bit of regular maintenance due (the bottom needs new anti-fouling, the sails are >10 years old), but it the guy was quite gregarious on the phone about how much had been done and how much was coming due.

Also, I'm told there's a broker in Portsmouth, UK, that maintains a good site about C&N boats, but I can't find it. Anyone have any ideas, or other sites for me to dig around?
