|deniseO30||kick up rudders are designed to "kick up" there are many ways that various manufactures use to hold them down. friction, clips, lines with a block and cleat. Don't shorten your tiller until you get used to the boat.. you can stand up and need a tiller extension when your hard on the wind.|

ODay Javelin 14
Recently acquired a 1980s Javelin 14 - love sailing it but need advice with two things. The rudder won't stay down - any thoughts? Also, has anyone shortened the tiller so that it is easier to change sides when tacking or jibing?
