|CharlieCobra||The key question when dealing with a wooden yacht is distribution of weight and proper support. What are the conditions of the planks, frames, etc.. Wood boats move under load so it's paramount to pin her in place with proper support to avoid distortion. Make sure her weight is resting on keel blocks.|

|TQA||I am sure that if you work in a yard you already know this but just in case do be aware that some boatyards with lifts will not haul wooden boats due to the risk of damage.|

Thanks for the insights. I work in a boatyard and my boyfriend/boat partner works as a rigger. Between the two shops that we work at we should have enough support to pack up the boat safely but it is always nice to have some outside opinions. I feel like sometimes it is easy to over look very obvious steps.
ps. The boat weighs around 16,000 lbs.

shipping a wooden boat over land is a horse of a different color, compared to one of fiberglass...we used to move some 28-32' ChrisCrafts, with two sets of tandems to spread the load, this on trailers spec'ed out and bunked for them....towing that much dense weight can be a challenge
You would do well to find someone who has copious experience with rigging, lifting, moving and trailering a wooden boat. The result of an un-knowing, but well intentioned rigger is not pleasant and could break your boat, literally.
A few years back a 30' wooden power boat being towed through Radford, VA broke down...the trailer, that is. It took a commercial rigger and tower almost 3 weeks to find another trailer capable of handling the weight, along with a crane (actually two) to move it and resettle. There were some concerns as to how dry she had become and everyone kept their fingers crossed when it was transferred to the working trailer.
Weight is a big factor, and will keep your tow driver on his toes. The wooden backbone will scare some boat movers away. I am not aware of any "good" or reputable folks, on this end, any longer in business. |Minnewaska||I wish I could help you with a recommendation, but I can add that how you are going to have her prepped and recommissioned is as equally important as the carrier. At 35', you may get away without escorts or the need for a separate truck for her main mast. However, properly carrying the mast aboard, as well as removing everything above the gunnels, is critical. When I trucked my boat, there were 4 parties involved. Only one was the carrier. Keeping them coordinated seemed like a full time job. Best of luck.|

Shipping a Wooden boat
I am shipping a wooden sail boat from San Diego to Annapolis. Does anyone have experience shipping a wooden boat? Can anyone recommend a reputable shipping company for this move?
