When I had a 27 Catalina my depth finder, which was integrated with my Lowrance GPS Plotter, shot directly through the fiberglass hull. No drilling holes and the sensitivity of the depth finder was outstanding. Of course, the GPS provided me with the SOG information with incredible accuracy.

Depth and Knots Gauge Through Hulls
My through hulls for the two gauges are the plastic (nylon, marelon maybe?) type. Generally are these an acceptable through hull for these instruments or should I change these to the bronze type through hulls. What do most of you have on your boats? My boat is a Catalina 27, 1980.
