HPLou As long as they are working and aren't leaking, there is no need to replace them.

travlineasy When I had a 27 Catalina my depth finder, which was integrated with my Lowrance GPS Plotter, shot directly through the fiberglass hull. No drilling holes and the sensitivity of the depth finder was outstanding. Of course, the GPS provided me with the SOG information with incredible accuracy.

I'd guess that the vast majority of smaller boats have the various plastic instrument through hulls. For typical local/coastal sailing as long as everything is properly installed I don't think they are an issue.

celenoglu If you can find a perfect bronze thruhull, it is a good idea to replace it. I have seen more than one broken plastic thruhulls.

Depth and Knots Gauge Through Hulls

My through hulls for the two gauges are the plastic (nylon, marelon maybe?) type. Generally are these an acceptable through hull for these instruments or should I change these to the bronze type through hulls. What do most of you have on your boats? My boat is a Catalina 27, 1980.
