If you have a good stainless frame and just need new covering you can get the job done for much less. In my case the frame was junk.

I might add for this price they came to the boat, measured and installed turn-key. They were not fast but I am satisfied with their work.

nauticalrich Rusty, that's a hell of a good price. Where did you get it from?

rustyballast I just spent $1100 for a new bimini for my '78 O'Day 30. The bimini that was on there got shredded in a storm while the boat was out at the mooring. The bimini frame was junk that someone had made from aluminum. The new bimini is very nice with all stainless bows and hardware. It has a boot that stores the bimini at the backstay. It is all Sunbrella material. I considered Denise's suggestion but decided if I wanted stainless and Sunbrella the custom by the local boat canvas shop was not that much more.

Bimini

1800 for a Bimini WOW!!!. I bought my online (custom) for less than 500. I used a site called IndyCanvas. You send them old skins and they replicate in about 3 weekd

deniseO30 no need to yell! (all caps) just buy an off the shelf Bimini and measure measure and measure until your sure where the backstays will be.. and put in your own grommets removing backstays isn't hard to do if you tie off the main halyard to the stern

Flfishindude Our bimini was in ok shape and I was really interested in adding the dodger. I made the mistake of throwing the old one away ( didn't think of using as a pattern ) DAH!!!! I am reasonably sure these were the original and could get one made from an existing pattern but not so. We are having the original bimini used as a pattern for a replacement. We have replaced all interior & exterior cushions and are having the bimini done by a local upholstery shop with sunbrella fabric. Could send you our old one as a pattern when ours gets done. R & D

rustyballast Hello,

What decision did you make on the bimini? I am going through this now. Carver Industries in Landrum SC makes some nice tops and just as Denise indicated I am considering buying a standard bimini and having the fabric modified. I am also obtaining quotes on a custom top. The backstay on my boat is a single line from the center of the transom.

deniseO30 Just buy one already made and have 2 openings made put in 2 large grommets for the split back stay. Measure measure measure first. Mine is very tattered, the back stay openings had zippers not really necessary back stays can be removed and threaded back through the bimini.
