Re: NONSUCH 22 - Jibe preventer

Oh, if your not talking about downwind sailing but more drifting or motorsailing in light air. I use a pretty simple setup to control the wishbone. Bring the sheet in fairly snug and run a line attached with a snap shackle to the end of the wishbone.(snap shackle so you can release it quick) use this line to pull the bone over the quarter and Fix it to one of the aft quarter cleats. Use a line with some stretch like a three strand. I also do this when motoring it really helps with that BIG scary piece of aluminum swinging above your head.

Now that's an interesting idea - and you are correct - light air only.

Many thanks E.

Only idea I can come up with is a line from the choker attachment on the wishbone run through a block on the cabin top to the main winch and crank it tight. LIGHT AIR ONLY!!!
My experience is with a Nonsuch 30 ultra not a 22.

NONSUCH 22 - Jibe preventer

Hello all -

I want to rig a jibe preventer on a catboat - a Nonsuch 22. This is not to be used in heavy, potentially risky downwind sailing but in light air, to keep all of that sail (306 square feet) and wishbone from flopping, side to side, etc.

It's a loose-footed sail - no boom, to speak of. A Wichart Gybeasy (a great product) or a vang-thingy won't work.

Give it a think.

Thanks Essemm65
