There are several in Puerto Rico. It will never be cheaper on the route you are folowing.
Super Walmart in Ponce.
Also a Kmart in St Thomas. USVI The canny shoppers in the BVIs go there, much cheaper than the BVI.
However you will need US visas for both the USVI and Puerto Rico.

Re: Best place to provision for Panama-Tahiti
A couple of suggestions for you. We had good provisioning in Panama City on the Pacific side. There is a store, like Costco in the US, the is excellent. I forget the name but describe and everyone will know what it is. You have to buy a membership. We shared a membership with a couple on another boat to reduce the cost. You can get there by bus but will need to get a cab back (~$10). Prices are great - beer was about $9/24 and Chilean wine $2/litre. We completely loaded a cab with about $500 worth of shopping - could not have taken anything else.
There is an incredible hypermarche in Papeete that is within walking distance of the marina. May well be the best supermarket I have ever seen (it is huge, French, in the middle of the ocean, and on a large tropical island). Not cheap though.

Best place to provision for Panama-Tahiti
Hi , We are new Zealanders and currently buying a boat in Simpson Bay, St Martin and plan to transit the Panama in early May and head to Tahiti.
it is 20 years since we have been in the Caribbean when we did the same trip.
Can anyone help with the following questions please:
Where is the best place to provision for trip for all the staples. tins etc. We are on a budget so need food at a reasonable price. Would it be worth sailing to the BVI's to do the big provision? What about around the Panama Canal?
