Re: Importing kits

Sorry, had trouble logging in last week...

Thanks for the tip - I've heard a lot of folk have post boxes in the US.

I'm arriving around the end of the month, probalby staying for a couple of days with a colleague-to-be and then heading up to Fort St John to start work. No point in hanging around Van as the family are having to stay behind for a couple of months. We're aiming to settle within striking distance of White Rock and Abbotsford though - south Langley looks promising at the mo.

Re: Importing kits

Does the kit come from the US or are you bringing it with you?

Importing from the US you do get hit with taxes and brokerage fees, although if you ship UPS Expidited the brokerage fees are covered.. (costs about the same overall, but you get it in a few days instead of a few weeks)

Many people in BC do use Security Mail Services in Blaine.. then it's a trip back through Canadian customs with the package and that seems to be a bit hit-or-miss as to whether you'll be nailed for duties/taxes etc. We've been lucky in the past.

When do you get here? and where will you be living right away??

Importing kits

Hi, I'm thinking of possibly getting a kayak kit to build in my spare time and keep me out of mischief until the family move over later in the summer. I like the look of the pygmy kayaks but have little idea about the taxes I may incur by bringing it into Canada. I assume I'll be hit for gst and pst on top of the cost. Is this right and is there anything I can claim back? Would it be worth my while getting a po box in the US for something like this?
TIA
