Re: How do we learn to sail?

Take the ASA 101 basic Keelboating course at an area school.

Learn to sail Florida- American Sailing Association

That should be a three day course, often run Friday-Sunday. I see some doing 101 in two days, I dont know how that can work...

Some schools offer day sailing courses in which you can return home for the night.

Also check out some classroom based courses offered by sailing school, Power Squadron, Coast Guard, etc.. Take you VHF courses, coastal navigation and first aid in this manner.

Re: How do we learn to sail?

Smartersail seems like it would be a good match for you but they are in St. Petersburg.

I see near you the Bluewater Sailing School but they don't seem a good fit for beginners.

The same might be true of Bluewater Miles.

Island Dreamer also seems to be advanced and live aboard.

Sail laser and Shake a Leg might be too low level.

So, I can see how you might have looked at all these but not found a match.

You might try http://www.arcmiami.com/school.htm

or CGSC Adult Sailing Programs

or Sailing Home

Aquatic Rental Center, Coconut Grove, or Castle Harbor look like they might work for you.

How do we learn to sail?

My wife and I would like to learn to sail. We are in our early fifties and live in Ft Lauderdale Florida. Our goal is to learn to sail well enough in the coming years to eventually be able to sail the Florida Keys and Bahamas on extended trips. Can anyone give us some tips on how best to get started? I have seen the week long live aboard courses but won't have the time to do that until next year. Is there a shorter version of training that would get us on the water this summer? Thanks, our names are Mame and Carmine.
