Well, I guess you can just show up and they'll put you on a boat. Not that I thought I'd get kicked out of the yacht club for going to a race unannounced....but good to know.

Racing in Muskegon

I'm looking to buff up my sailing skills by going out on a few races before my husband and I leave for the Caribbean later this summer. I know the Muskegon Yacht Club holds races every Wednesday night that I'd like to take part in, but any suggestions on how to join?

While working in the boat yard this past week I talked to a guy who said just to show up on the night of the race and they'd find somewhere to stick me. Is this ok or is it better to call the yacht club to get more information or try to contact someone directly who races and wants crew?

I'm still a bit of a novice at line handling since I'm normally behind the helm and this is what I'd like to learn more about. So if there's anyone out there who participates in the Wednesday races or knows the protocol for a newbie like me, please let me know!!
