After reading your post, I called Stanley at BETAMARINE North Carolina. Stan is the master distributor for the BETAMARINE and a walking encyclopedia on small diesels and their application on sailboats. I asked him your question and as it turns out he has personally re powered two Bristols 41.1. He is available to talk to you at his office (252) 249 2386. He might even be able to provide you with contact info for the owners of the Bristols... I don't know.

Tom, I had the same question about a 43.3 Bristol in 1996. I was told that it would cost 10k to rebuild the 52 Westerbeke or 10k put a new one in. Why does it cost the same to rebuild as to replace, I asked. Because, I was told, the motor would have to be disassembled taken out of the boat one part at a time, repaired and returned one part at a time, Why 10k for the new one? because the new one would have to be disassembled and installed one part at a time. This may be the same with the 40's
as the 41.1's

Bristol 41 Repowering
Does anyone have experience with repowering a Bristol 41. I am interested in any thoughts relative to the type of engine used and the total cost. I am also interested in the route utilized to remove the old Westerbeke. Thanks.
