Just bought a Columbia Challenger 24" from the 60's...would like to change to Rope Halyards and was wondering if the sheaves on top of the mast that now
work for wire halyards could accept a 7/16" rope halyard...

thanks

most likely not but why would you need 7/16 for a haylard on a 24' boat. todays materials used for haylards are ten times as strong as they were in the 60's. the main haylard on my 33 is 5/16 wth the cover striped off half the length and the core is less than 1/4". the wire sheaves on most older boats are not very wide and the cut of the groove is different for wire then rope. sometimes you can use a narrow rope sheave and the new high tech line and make it work without modifying the mast.
