Good to hear Barry, It is nice when it all comes together. Makes it worth it for the times when it all falls apart!

Fast Speeds

Hi Eherlihy,

Wow, that is some fast sailing!

My boat has the shoal draft keel and I feel that really hurts my pointing ability. By being careful about tuning the rig (I have a little more work to do) and being careful about headsail car placement I have gotten satisfactory performance. I can tack to around 90 degrees and still have decent boat speed. I can live with that.

Barry

Seas were virtually flat through the hole, as we were protected by Cuttyhunk and Naushon Islands. We were cooking!

Re: I'm in love

Depending upon the main chosen etc, you may not have to reef for another couple of knots depending upon how big the jib/genoa is. Temps also contribute to how soon you need to reef/reduce sail too. I have found in 80F temps, I can go higher in winds before reducing vs say a 35-40F temp. as the air molecules are closer together in colder temps than higher. Not that we notice it as much as humans, but our sail cloth seems to.

Sounds like a fun sail.

oysterman23 Hey Barry happy to hear of the good sail. I had a beauty
Sat on the south shore . Set sail from bergen point about 1:30 headineast. And was surprised to find myself making kismet and home by 6:30. The "new" boat was so solid and responsive....nice when it all comes together isn't......today I got blown all over while trying to free a jamned halyard on the winch ya just never know!

Nice report Barry.
The new main sail will make your sweet heart sail even faster!

Re: I'm in love

Reefing the main early is something we all need to learn to do. So often we keep the damn thing full, I think maybe cos we feel its a bit soppy to reef. Reality is though and BFS notwithstanding, she'll sail flatter, faster and with less weather helm.
