Re: .

Thanks for your advice. It would be pretty tricky to splice it into the shackle whilst I am actually on the boat. Splicing it into the chain would be impossible as I'd have to take the chain off the boat to splice it but I can't as it's the only chain I have for the mooring.

Re: Hello to all from UK

If you tie you line to the shackle then an anchor hitch would be a good knot, plus I'd use some whipping twine and affix the working end to the line to make sure it cannot pull loose. The anchor bend self-tightens and is quite secure.

On the other hand, I like to splice and would splice my 3-strand into the chain or the shackle, since that would eliminate even more chance of chafe and a splice is stronger than a knot.

Hello to all from UK

Hey guys, recently bought my first little yacht Hurley H20.

Decided to sign up to this forum as it seems like there is a lot of valuable information here.

I live in South West of England. No pics of the boat as I haven't cleaned it yet.

However have a question for any gurus.

The boat is on the swinging mooring in tidal waters. Now the mooring line needs replacing, I bought some nice new 3 strand nylon mooring rope.
At the end of the chain on the mooring there is a just a standard shackle which the old line is tied to.

I am very paranoid to what knot to use to tie the new mooring line to it or what method as I have never owned a boat before. Also it will be staying on water during the winter too. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
