Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

As I continue to shovel the snow we got from the blizzard last week, with our 60+ mph winds I continue to think of Brian, I won't tell you what I'm thinking about Brian, but I'm thinking.
(what was that address again?????)

Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

And another great day in the frigid waters of the Salish Sea. New Year's Day.

Dang it was cold but a nice 10knt north wind. Again, sun, just plain weird.

Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

Good Karma

Just bitch about the weather for 10 straights days, and look; blue sky, 10knt out of the north, a bit of heel in the boat, and heading to a marina to meet with friends for the long weekend. And I thought it was just going to pee on me all day. This is the first day we have seen sun in the PNW for months.

Didn't even need to break out the sailing coat, wow.

And, yes, I did get a slight sun burn. Any sun coloring of the skin in the PNW is considered a "sun burn"

Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

Time to get out the X-C skis. 4" of snow on Christmas and 12 more yesterday in Seal Harbor. I haven't been home there yet but the plow truck is parked strategically and full of gas. New chanis. Ready to move about 5 cubic yards of the fluffy white stuff over the bank, out of my way. Instant urban renewal! It is important to have everything you want to survive plowing put away before it gets hidden. I just "dusted" off the cover on the Marshall Cat Boat. All is well. L.L. Bean will see us through another Maine winter.

If I remember correctly the snook and tarpon start running in about four months. Plenty of time to catch a few smelt and a salmon or two. Tie some flies. Do some skiing. Relax with a few books and the Scotch that is waiting. We now have Amtrack service to Brunswick, ME (not GA) our "southern" home. Seniors ride for half fare. For $25.00 I can take a book, my little flask and go for a round trip ride along the coast to Boston and back in a warm car with a spectacular view.

The 20' waves we were pounded with last week in Seal Harbor were worth being here to see.

It all works.

Save some warm sand for the rest of us. We will save you some snow. Until May.

Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

yesterday evening had freezing rain. snowed overnight. snowblower can't fight through that bottom layer of ice. Boat's on the hard. Can't wait to follow the sun next year. N.E. and Maine in summer - que tip land or further south in winter. Remember don't make you a bad person to spend it all while you have the opportunity. Make memories for the nursing home years. But remember leave enough for the kids- they get to pick the nursing home. No place is perfect other wise everyone would live there and then it be too crowded -you would hate it. Happiness is in your heart -enjoy the blessings of your environs. Happy new year all.

You should have your own "reality" show, it would be more interesting than "lobster wars"

Re: To all my Northern Sailing Friends...

I really don't understand your point on your original post.
Hell, we sail 9 months out of the year and only have a 3-month off season.

Last Sail of 2012

Had to break some ice to get out of the Bay

Tried to sail though it, but light winds and loss of rudder control forced us to motor out

Got some sailing in once we reached open water

Didn't anybody tell you? Sailing in snow is Fun..

We had to break more ice on the way in, and unfortunately, the decision was made to pull the mooring and the boat. Temps were forecasted to remain below freezing, meaning more ice would form and the ability to row out in the dinghy would be greatly reduced.

Being the last boat in means you have to pull your own mooring ball.

And you have to shovel the ramp yourself if you want to get the boat out.

Hey, it's good to have crazy friends with a trailerable boat.
Until next March, we are done.

You really should leave your CNN and FOX News indoctrination programming, to get out and experience the real world!
If you can link me to that quote as you've written it above, I'll throw you a bone. Otherwise, you got nuthin.
