Re: Dominican anchorages recommendations

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I am headed to DR in a month and my research led me to Frank Virgintino's free cruising guides Free Cruising Guides Ľ Frank Virgintino that I found very helpful.

I bought Bruce Van Sant's guides but he avoided southern DR and mainly used it to hop south, which is fine, if that's your aim. My boat is already in DR so I kept looking and found FV's guides to anchorages in DR as well as cruising around DR from Bahamas very encouraging - a less 'thorny' path for certain.

All the best,

Philip 'soon to be onboard' M/S Sea Bird (currently Fisher Isle in Marina Zar Par)

If you can get your hands on a copy of "Gentlemans Guide to Passages South" By Bruce Van Sant it is loaded with just the type of information you are looking for. Good Luck!

Dominican anchorages recommendations

All,

I am looking for recommendations from folks that have been cruising around the Dominican Republic in the last year or two. We will likely make it to and try heading south from the Turks and Caicos sometime in the mid March time frame. If anyone has recommendations on initial landings from here, ports we can't miss, marina info, or just your take on this destination as a whole, please let me know. I am interested in knowing about fuel, provisioning, safety, accommodations near anchorages, since we may be flying in family to meet up with us. Any information to any of this would help out.

Thanks!
