Did a direct wiring test of the led light strips today. They worked perfectly. Now just to get them properly mounted.....

I just cut off the ac adaptor and direct wired them to the panel for the purpose of the test with the help of a couple of alligator clips.

They throw plenty of light. These are daytime photos.

Orange

White, and the little remote, this might become a problem as there are no controls without the remote......so if it gets lost or the batteries die then the lights are not useable

Led flexible light strips

We picked up some of these https://www.sylvania.com/en-us/produ...ed-strips.aspx at Costco yesterday. $30 for 4 2 foot strips. They are 12 volt so we think we can just cut off the ac adaptor plug and direct wire them to the boat system. They come with a remote control and you can chose from 15 different colours including red and white or have it cycle through all of them for a cool effect. You can also adjust the brightness. I just hope we don't lose the remote.....
I will let you know how it works out.

Maybe it was me Smacky, i bought some regular fixtures at home depot, that took a G10 base, or something?, and replaced the receptacle with a M16 socket (lighting aisle home stores). Then I fitted a 12v led bulb, and made a retainer for the bulb out of SS welding wire, bent into a triangle to fit inside fixture to retain bulb). 12v m16 bulbs from Rona in Canada, must be everywhere in the US? Easy, fast, good light.

FWIW I tested (one of) those IKEA LED's for a fair while at 15V and for several minutes at 20V and while it got hot it didn't blow up. Nice light - especially for accents when bouncing off wood paneling.

That's very close to what I saw. The only difference is that the other guy actually pulled the "bulbs" (or cards) from the LED fixtures and wired those into his cabin fixtures.

It looks like the LED festoon bulbs aren't too much more expensive than going the rip and stick route like above.

Looks like I have a new project!

Thanks fellas.
