Agree with Dale above, this is a sailboat forum and you might get better advice over at boatered.com or thehulltruth.com, forums dedicated to powerboats.
One suggestion...if you haven't bought the boat yet, make the current owner take care of it because I can almost gaurantee that whatever someone tells you how much it will cost to replace the fuel tank, it will end up being a lot more. There's no need to buy a can of worms.

Atlantic coastal welding among others can make and exact copy

It tends to be a nightmare getting them in and out on powerboats as they build aroun it like it would last forever

This forum has to do with sailboats ,so it's not my cup of tea. But you could look into a bladder type tank and maybe insert in place of old tank. If you can get at it, old tank could be cut up to remove. Lots of luck...........Dale

Replacing 27 gallon fuel tank on 1973 Reinell 23ft Cabin Cruiser

We are going to buy a 1973 Reinell 23ft Cabin Cruiser this weekend. It does have a problem though. The fuel tank has a leak and rust. He says it needs to be repaired or replaced. We were looking into replacing it, but are unsure on the steps to take and the cost. First question is, what amount of funds are we looking at with us doing it verses a boat place doing it for us. This is our first boat and we don't know much about the fuel tank, so we are a bit nervous. We were told it's under the deck and we would have to tear up the deck to do it. Is this safe? Does it hurt the strength of the boat? Any suggestions for us before we purchase the boat?

Thank you so much,
Sheila
