Marine Trading International Taiwan Republic of China
I just purchased a 1977 Island Trader Ketch. Built in 1977 by the Marine Trading International. Republic of China. This information is taken right from an original buyers statement and the USA Coast Guard "certificate of Documentation" issued on the vessel in 1990.
My question is this, is there anyone in any of the forums who owns one of these old crushing vessels and if so can you correspond with me regarding your trials and tribulations as well as any facts, upkeep and tips you may have on these Taiwan built ketch?
Mine currently leaks at cabin window frame location not window seals. The original Teak decking has been removed and the entire deck is redone in new fiberglass. The rails have not been reinstalled yet, and will be reinstalled on the wood trim as opposed to the deck again to eliminate any new leaking below.
As well the original Volvo diesel is gone and was blown. It has been replaced with a Kubota Universal Atomic Diesel built in 1982. Model 1501B model 40. Now cross referenced with Westerbeke 5432. Can engine parts still be obtained? If so from where. Looking for an affordable parts dealer. The boat was purchased without engine running or hooked up. It needs retrofit and mounts. I have been told it runs.....to be determined at this point. If anyone can help with information on the boat and this universal marine power, I would be so thankful
