Re: $6,600 to rebuild Atomic 4? replace/rebuild

Mark: I have installed rebuilt Atomic IV in Catalina 30, but took the cable connection apart on port side to lubricate large tranny cable. Lost my photo on this assembly so do you or anyone have a photo of cable connection at cockpit control lever which is inside port lazarette??? Would be so grateful for photo or diagram.

We did the same thing for the same reasons! Love the Moyer exchange. A sweet engine.

Re: $6,600 to rebuild Atomic 4? replace/rebuild

Yea the $4k went to Moyer. The thing that sold me on the exchange engine was that it was painfully obvious that my engine was horribly neglected and the Moyer engine came with all the updates. It came with electronic ignition, the electric fuel pump, the oil changing kit, the furled extensions on the water pump cover, just about every upgrade they offer on the site comes on the exchange engine. Not only that, I got a new starter, new carburetor with all its little extras. Add that up on the site and the deal gets even better!

I removed the engine myself and got it out into the cockpit and had the yard take that down and place the new engine onto the motor mounts. They charged me $50! So, it was really a nice engine swap and a refresh on the engine room. after seeing the mess in the thermostat housing, the Fresh Water cooling kit from Indigo was a no brainer. I also threw the external thermostat housing and she runs a very nice 175 to 180 degrees!

I have to say, Yesterday was the best this engine has ever run. i installed the Indigo prop. I gain a little drag but the engine really likes the prop! It was a great day on the Viking!!! 15 knots of wind 6-7 knots thru the water on just the head sail! We had some issues that delayed the beginning of our season so it was our first time out this year. Great great day!

It's hard not to love the Atomic 4, even though it's gas. I had one in my Islander 32 and it was neat being able to work on it myself (with help form Moyer).

Nice job. By the way, that $4K that went to Moyer? That would have been about the cost of the INCIDENTALS if you had swapped to a diesel.

Man, I just read this. Fine Job!!!

I ran into a similar problem but it was already late May when I found I needed a new engine and I was trying to salvage at least some of the season. I opted for Moyer's exchange engine due to extraordinary corrosion from years of a leaking raw water pump. I paid the $4,000 and swapped it all out myself

Good job ! keep posting it is a lot of help when a thread is updated by the OP. Because of your success we have learned a little. Thanks once more for sharing . It may save some old boat from the bone yard. Even if a thread turns out to be less then joyful it is a helpful learning tool.
Kind Regards, Lou

Re: $6,600 to rebuild Atomic 4? replace/rebuild

Now that is what we're talking about!!!
Atomic 4's can be fixed by the common man (with the help of Moyer Marine).
You just did an uncommonly good overhaul job.
Congrats!
