Hi from Atlanta

Hello all, just wanted to post a little about me and what I'm looking for. Im a complete newbie when it comes to sailing, never been sailing, our even on a sail boat for that matter.

My fiancee and i love the water, we currently have a jet ski that we take to our local lake, lake Lanier. I want to get into boating and i love the idea of having a cabin for over night lake stays. Cabin cruisers are just to much and too big and often have lots of problems because of the motors, that is why i have turned my attention to sailboats.

I love how you dont have to rely on the motor to get you across the lake.

Having never been on our around sailboats, i figure a 17 foot sailboat with the cabin would be a prefect beginner boat for my fiancee and i. I have been looking around on craigslist and am able to find quite a few boats for a good price, under $1600.

I'm looking to trailer it to and from the lake and store it at my home. What are some good brands to look for, and what information would you tell me before i commit to buying a sailboat, especially not having sailing experience.

Thank you and look forward to hearing some responses and continuing to rest through the forums
