Only seems to be one flapper valve listed now.

I think I will get a new pump body and build my bits into that and keep the other as a spare as it seems that they are interchangeable.

Ck the flapper valves the holes may be different.New holes 1/2 old 3/8?smaller.They will not seal.marc

I had the Raritan PHII for many years. I rebuilt it several times, joker & flappers usual suspects. Went to buy a new pump and it was more expensive then a new Jabsco, so bought new and canned the Raritan. Funny thing, I had to carry the new toilet across the border from Singapore to Malaysia, boy did the Malaysia customs give give me some grief, they could not possibly understand why anybody would be carrying a toilet across the border.....

After reviewing the exploded parts diagram (look here ) I think you will be safe.

Before you get it installed, you might want to tear it down to see if you can determine if it is a pre- or post-1992 model -- there's a minor but important difference in the pump seal assembly, and the two are not interchangeable. The repair kits are different, and if you have the wrong one you are gonna be stuck (BTDT ).

We had one of the early versions on our last boat, with a flush/dry valve that had to be turned several turns (rather than the 90 deg turn of the current style).. What failed on ours was the plastic bits in the pump handle linkage. We had that boat 12 years and that was the only issue, aside from periodic servicing. We had a SS replacement fabricated..it's likely still going strong.

We have the same (newer) head on our current boat, and it's been very good too.

I remember inquiring with Raritan about replacing that old-style pump body with the newer flush valve, no problem, but it was $250 (15 years ago) so we kept turning the valve The newer model also has a bleeder fitting on the pump, we've had to replace that since it was inconveniently 'squirting' onto your foot during the pumping action.

I think the only difference between the PH II and PHE II is that the PHE has an electric motor to drive the pump shaft. The internals of the pumps themselves should be the same and therefore the parts completely interchangable. As Faster suggested, call Raritan for the definitive answer. The 1200 C parts kit may include the parts for conversion of the pump from PH to PHE???


With regard to the cracking.... if the heads in question are original equipment (1978) it wouldn't surprise me that they might be cracking here and there. I've had a PH II in service since 2001 and have replaced the base unit once and the pump housing once. I've rebuilt the pump probably 4-5 times over the years. You'd be surprised the difference a new pump housing can make in the power of the pump.

The cracking may be caused by age, or it could be the result of prior owners using strong acids to clean the system. I was once an advocate of using diluted muriatic acid to clean the scale off, but we had a catastropic failure of the base of the head after a few years of using the acid. I've heard that other cruisers have had the same problem, so I have now switched to vinegar and changing out pump parts and the hoses more frequently. Apparently the strong acid has some effect on the plastic that does not lead to pleasant outcomes.

If the hoses on your boat are original, replace them.

But I don't see why the pumps wouldn't be interchangeable.. the base bolts and hose in/out are the same, yes?? I know that the flush/empty valves differ depending on age, but even then the pumps themselves are swappable. Can't recall the difference the 'E' makes....
