Goodnewsboy I suspect these were secured to the deck with harnesses as they would be on an ocean racing sailboat. The fact that all were recovered speaks to the effectiveness of the harnesses in maintaining contact.

Tragic that two were drowned while attached to the ship.

werebeagle As to why they were on the surface, the article stated that they were just leaving port, which they would do surfaced. Unfortunately, Navy vessels can't necessarily wait until nice weather windows to leave port.

ianhlnd What the heck was a sub doing on the surface in rough weather? They were tied to the deck and they still went over? Something not right with this picture.
