The damage caused to the pipe. Did the owner have you sign a contract that stated you would take responsibility for damage? Did the crane opperator have you sign a contract stating you would not be responsible for any damage? Normally, not the case and you probably could have gone against the insurance companies for the yard or especially the crane for any damages caused to someone other than.

Worst case, your liability on your boat insurance or even homeowners may have paid the $3000.

That is what we all pay insurance for.

I think part of the lesson here is to also evaluate your shippers. You should have been able to find someone to truck it from Texas to LA for about 5-7 grand flatbed based upon fuel fluctuation costs. You should have also been able to find a shipper with a hydraulic trailer between 8 and 10K costs are higher with time and equipment. Discuss this with the shipper when you talk to them. Try to deal directly with a shipper and not a broker there are at least 10 brokers for every shipper. If you are coming out of the water, you have the added expense or need to take the time to prepare the boat. Pull the mast down and remove anything you want to keep (wind, radar, lines, canvas, etc..). If you are really flexible on your dates, find a shipper that travels back and forth a lot along your route. Check the insurance certificates and policy for your shipper and make sure they are covered OK to use a small one-truck shipper, as long as he is insured well, also let your insurance company know. Take hundreds of pictures prior to it leaving with the final one on the trailer. Use a current newspaper in some of the shots to absolute when the picture was taken. Put your job up on ubid to get an idea of how much, with the EXACT weight and dimensions as well as requirements at the yard on both ends. Remember, they may be higher on ubid b/c of the fees they pay to ubid. Hydraulic between Texas and CA is not as common as it is North and East as many of these boats come out for the winter to be stored far inland or not uncommon at home, but you should have been able to find one. Most important thing is you have the boat you want and it is now moved to where you want it, and that makes it all worth it in the long run.

does the trucking company have a hydraulic trailers available? They don't need a crane/lift as long as they can get the open back end around the boat.

Too bad you're not a bum with a derelict boat stranded on Gulfport Beach. Apparently then everyone would unite to lift your boat onto the truck.

I hope you can find someone to help.

I looked this place up on Google map. Looks like its across the street from a marina that could handle your boat. I understand why a marina wouldn't want to move another persons boat on another lot and re-block it, liability.

Have you looked for Mr. Satterfield's home phone number? I'd call information and request all the phone numbers for Satterfield in Kemah Texas. Also I would call the property tax office and find out who owns that business and call that person. Push the panic button!

Found this number on their fence (281) 334-2005 using google map.
