I'm not a big fan of birds, so I'd have to state that the only common thing missing in all those pictures are.... crosshairs.

But the remain excellent pictures, nonetheless!

Re: Just sitting on the back of the boat

I have put up a bird feeder just outside of the marina office and it has gotten rather popular by both birds and marina staff. Thing is, they don't get as much work done now as they spend a fair bit of time looking at the fuzzy crowd

I went into the office this morning to have a cup of coffe and as I had the camera with me, it would have been rude not to use it.

Their formation flying is interesting too - the lead bird in the V creates a "draft" that makes it easier on the others, just like NASCAR. When the lead bird gets tired he drops to the back of the V and the next one in front takes over the lead.

You can't EVER trust them - I've known of several cases where people got them as babies and still ended up getting ripped up at some point. The have teeth & claws as effective as cats.

Better to feed the wild ones from a distance to keep them coming around and just put up with the mess they create.

Eggs are the best lure and it's fun to watch them eat them.

I came home from night shift one summer to find my wife sleeping out on the upstairs deck. There was a whole family of coons sniffing around her. Don't know if they were checking to see if she was edible or not.

They are also very tough(not to eat). They survive the winters near our house at 6,700 feet elevation. I guess they eat squirrels, voles, bugs, maybe some plant life? Every year there is a new batch of little ones. Only predators are coyotes and cars. One of my neighbors used to feed them inside her house until one bit her husband. $1,500 for rabies shots. He was "self insured". End of raccoons.
