Kalmia41 I've always been a fan of the Little Harbors, which are great live-aboards, but are exceptionally expensive. They do, however, satisfy nearly all of your requirements, except they generally have teek decks. Little Harbors in general are really well made, and are great blue-water cruisers with alot of space. Aside from that they are not bad to look at. The Hinckley Sou'Wester 42 is also a beautiful boat, but can be very expensive. Also consider the other Hinckleys in the 40-50 foot range. Although they are expensive, they make up for it in quality and beauty. Hope You find your boat, and HAVE FUN on that cruise.

ebs001 One of your stumbling blocks in the size of boat you want might be that you want it to be ICW capable - air and water draft. Have you considered a cat. a new 42ft Manta sells for 370k. Most toys are standard equipment and they will customize one for you. Except for marina expenses, a cat makes all the sense in the world for cruising, IMHO. They are roomy, open,airey and on some points of sail very fast.

S/VNirvana Someone had mentioned a Jeanneau 49DS. I have a SO49 and would recommend the Jeanneau 54DS. I think this would make a great cruising vessel and it has a shoal draft version. I don't know if it is ICW capable and I would also get it with a bow thruster and RO fresh water maker.

camaraderie The T55 in both sloop and ketch is not suitable for ICW work due to draft & mast height my T52 ketch just squeaks under the bridges and has a long 6' fin keel. The T-55 is a great boat though.

VMacDonald A Tayana 55 should be about right for your requirements, or at least worth looking at. There are at least two interior layours - two or three cabins - and both have a big walk in engine room. The standard model is a centre cockpit sloop, but there's also a deck saloon variant. The mast is pretty tall though, so you may have air draft issues. The tayana web site mentions a ketch version (which is likely to have a shorter main mast) but I don't know how many if any of theose have actually been built.

I'd argue that point. On a world cruiser, especially one that size, having watertight bulkheads could save your lives. There's been quite a lot of talk among the global races over the past decade, all trending to requiring multiple watertight bulkheads because collisions (whales, cargo cubes, buoys, boats) do happen, and closing a bulkhead on a boat that size can be the option that saves the boat. Not to mention, the crew.
I'd be OK if they were actually watertight. We looked at a number of boats at the Annapolis show where they had rounded doors in the bulkheads between cabins yet they weren't watertight - they were just for show. Useless and just a trap to stub your toes!

Wow! Those are some really cool boats. I love the thought that went into them. I think I'll reach out and see what smaller models of their sailing vessels they made. Thanks for the tip.
