That channel change is good news, I was getting tired of the Anguilla port control overshadowing a good portion of the morning net

!

Now it's on VHF 10

Moved from 14 to 10 in March 2013 to avoid other traffic.

You might find a genuine cruiser that way. If I was there I certainly would have been prepared to talk for my supper!
Thanks, TQA. With the list of possible hangouts and marinas and armed with this I feel like a well informed newbie. Yeah, people love to talk about themselves and with dinner thrown in I may have a shot at visiting a cruising boat and edging a little close to my dream.

I agree with Zanshin. The people who stay in St Martin during hurricane season may have those Vegas dice rattling in their brain compartments. Very few cruisers, but many people living there who happen to be on boats.

Re: St. Martin June 8 - 19 - looking to meet cruisers

Zanshin,

Thanks for the info on hangouts. I consulted some sites on hurricane probability on St. Martin and I think I'm on the edge of 'Vegas Odds' going there the second and third weeks of June. Having said that those who make their way by the winds usually know more than those whose career is predicting the weather. Maybe I'll bump into a few folks at the places you mention - noted them in my notebook.

I'm hoping the offer of a dinner or some drinks might incline at least one to give us a tour of their boat :-)

Re: St. Martin June 8 - 19 - looking to meet cruisers

joelsanda,

the cruiser hangouts in St. Martin are Lagoonies (inside of the lagoon close to Island Waterworld), the Yacht Club at the Dutch bridge (during the happy hour bridge opening) and Barnacle's (also inside the lagoon on the Dutch side past Palapa Marina). While I love anchoring at Marigot there isn't as much of a "scene" on the French side.

Also in June the real cruisers will have departed for destinations outside of the hurricane zone and those who remain are more liveaboards than travelers.

St. Martin June 8 - 19 - looking to meet cruisers

My son and I will be staying just outside Marigot, St. Martin the second and third weeks of June. We are 2-1/2 years away in our plan to buy a sailboat, hopefully in the Florida Keys - then cruise the Bahamas and Caribbean. In the meantime we've been sailing lakes in Colorado, though we have ocean time on a catamaran and small fishing boats. I completed my ASA 101 and 103 courses three years again and have sailed three summers.

We would love a chance to visit a 'real' cruising boat and speak with folks doing what we're dreaming about. We would be happy to return the favor with food and drink at a local restaurant, or equivalent. The local sailing club limits rentals to four hours a shot and the J22s we have been on pale in comparison to the cruising sailboats we've seen in Port Lucaya, Papeete and Zihuatanejo.

If you will be in Marigot around those dates and have the time and an inkling to help two dreaming and scheming land lubbers tour a boat and listen to your stories (and never doubting a word) we are happy to return the favor with some fine food at a restaurant.

Thanks - I can be reached via PM here or joelsanda at dwimordene dot net.
