Wow...

And you say you're cruising? Where do you put all your stuff?? (grin)

On my boat, I'd really be hard-pressed to find space if I didn't have my headsails on furlers. My trysail usually lives on its track at the base of my mast, I have all I can do to find space for the storm jib, asymetrical, and Code 0...

With that sort of inventory, and depending upon how flat your new asymetrical chute might be, you really should consider a Code 0... No other sail will so often make the difference for a cruiser between sailing and motoring, and they can be furled tight and stowed in a very light, compact package... No other sail offers a higher ratio of horsepower/storage space required than a Code 0 on a furler, and yet I'm always surprised how rarely I see them on cruising boats... Many folks won't bat an eye over spending $2K on something like the latest and greatest chartplotter package, or a 15hp engine for their tender - but apparently a similar expenditure for sails with the impressive utility and versatility of free-flying light air sails is difficult for most to justify...

My hat's off to anyone who carries and uses that sort of headsail inventory... Hell, half the time I have trouble making the effort to simply furl my RF genoa to effect the equivalent change between a #3 and a #4 jib, I can't imagine actually performing a headsail change to do so... (grin)

Freaking great! I love that attitude. It's all about sailing!

Where do you store all that canvas. I have a main with 3 reef points on the boom, a 135% Genoa on a furler, a staysail in its bag in its locker and a cruising shute in the same locker. in fact during the last three years the staysail and CS have not been used, that's over 15k miles. But then I am a lazy sailor.

No, the second main is a backup sail, in case the first one becomes unuseable on a trip. In conditions where I would use a trysail, I would be flying a storm jib or my #4 or #5 only. The boat will sail upwind with jib alone.

Yes, when cruising, I most often fly the #1 and #3, the large spinnaker and the main, but it is nice to have other selections available for particular conditions.

Yes, I fly the spinnaker solo. I use an autopilot. I was the foredeck crew on a racing sailboat so I am very familiar with the drill. The launch and the takedown are pretty easy. The only challenging part is jibing, which I am still working on. Standing high on the cabintop in front of the mast with both hands on the spinnaker pole while solo in the ocean is still a scary procedure.

What particular aspect of solo spinnaker flying do you have questions about? I refer to Andrew Evans' solo sailing book as my inspiration: http://sfbaysss.org/tipsbook/SinglehandedTips.pdf

I have 4 or 5 videos showing the spinnaker flying on my boat:
