And the peepers at the far side of our pond are making one heck of a concert every night as well. Don't have a picture of them though.

Love the Northern Flicker - especially when you see the brilliant yellow under their wings as they fly. Great pics of the swallows too! I haven't seen many in person myself. One day....

FC, the birds are there for a reason - food. Lots of bugs in our part of the world this time of year, slow flying bugs the birds can easily catch and fatten up on during the nesting period, which is within the next few weeks. The swallows arrived at Perryville this past week, too - right after the bugs began appearing in larger numbers. The other thing that arrived is spiders, lots of spiders. They enjoy feasting on the bugs as well.

I have always loved swallows.. unless they decide to build a nest next to your front door and defend it.
It looks like they have returned to?

I woke up this morning to the sound of hundreds of swallows chirping outside the boat and when I looked out, every dock and cheater line was covered in rows of swallows like beads on a string.
This just shows a small section of the marina , but it will give you an idea of what is going on here at the moment.
also we have a new guest next to the boat. Even with all the goings on, this guy was not to be deterred to chisle out a new home for himself in one of the piles.
