Re: Numbers on sail for Oday Javelin

XDY = O'DAY
B = Javelin
xxxx = Class# (or Sail Number)
M76 = 1976 Model Year
C = October (month boat was built, Model Year ran August - July, so your Javelin was built in October 1975 as a 1976 Model)

Re: Numbers on sail for Oday Javelin

You were right. The first 3 letters stand for oday. The letter b stands for javelin. The four digits following are the class number. These four will be on the sail. The next three start with the letter m and is followed by 2 numbers which is the year. Our boat was made in 76. The very last character is the month it was made in. Ours is C which says that it was made in march. Thank you for taking the time to respond! She just ordered the sails. Now I have to get the parts for my motor and finish rebuilding the engine. I also have to do a little gel coat work. I am excited though. I see light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

We are looking to see which digits out of that long number that you have on your sail and in which order. After doing a lot of research when we first bought the boat she found out that the numbers on the sail tell specific information about the boat. Sorry for being so difficult. We just want to have it exactly as it was when it was new. We are pretty sure it tells the year of the boat amongst other information which she has forgotten.

Your boat should have the id, or HIN on the stern if it is mid 70's, at least my O'day does.

Generally, you can use the HIN as your numbers, the 4 digits should be sandwiched in the middle of all those numbers. Here is a link that describes it well.
