Re: Survey Repairs

Sadly, I can tell you they are most likely thinking "female buying a boat, has money and plenty more where it's coming from"

Suggestion.. STOP! Gain some knowledge first! knowledge is power!

No one quotes sight unseen. Is the surveyor one you hired, or was the surveyor suggested by the broker?

Re: Survey Repairs

No and No...

However you may have found a particularly bad example (not that I'd put any stock in the repair estimate if nobody's come to check it out)

If you're attracted by a substantially lower price than market value then all of this may well be true.. and there was a reason for the lower price.

In today's market, in that niche I doubt there's a reason to buy a boat with so many potential problems right off... I'd keep looking.

Survey Repairs

I am considering purchasing a 2002 Jeanneau 43 but the survey pointed out several areas in need of repair. There is a leak that has caused a fair amount of mold in the forward cabin and water under the mast that give me particular concern. The surveyor suggested not sailingh until the mast is checked out. My borker (a boat yard owner) has quoted repairs at $20,000 based on the survey - he has not seen the boat. This is my first boat. Is it normal to need so many repairs when you buy a boat and is it possible to quote repair work without seeing the boat?
