Re: Beneteau 265 (1991)

I picked up a bene 265 from canyon lake... It has engine problem, still in the shop. Trailer purchase was expensive. Has a tall rig. I would take her on ocean for a week cruise. A lot more to invest first though. Running rigging, instruments, jib furler, starting to think I bought a kit boat.

Beneteau 265 (1991)

Does anybody have knowledge of the Beneteau 265. I have an opportunity to pick up one at about 20% the cost I see others in the same shape/ yr range. My sailing grounds are mostly Texas coastal and bays with a planned once or twice a year trailer to Florida and spend week or 2 in bahamas. I have a 1972 Bristol 30 sitting on a trailer now that I got at an auction for 2200.00 (trailer worth more than that). The more I look at it it'll take at least 10K to get it where it needs to be and I'll have a 10K boat. The beneteau 265, 20 yrs newer and alot better shape will cost (boat and minor repairs) 5-7K and I have a 15-25K boat, not to mention the weight of the Beneteau is almost half that of Bristol so towing to FL alot safer and cheaper. I'm sure the Beneteau is fine for TX, just not sure about crossing the gulf stream to Bahamas. Any advice/ opinions?
