Re: New boat owner looking for day ride PNW

It was not that windy in PA or PT today....BUT the weather forecast does not look good for friday, saturday looks reasonable. Unless motoring up/sailing to a degree up the inside part to the swinomish channel. That would be my first choice with a newer boat etc. A lot less issues up that way than around the west side of whidbey. Not that going up that side is an issue..........will be doing that around july 4.

Maybe you should watch the weather. I'm hearing from noaa that northern inland waters including Friday harbor, oak harbor and Everett could have gusts up to 40 today. I personally don't think it will be THAT windy but maybe this afternoon maybe tomorrow might get like last weekend when you decided against going.

I have a slip at Skyline and just need to get bottom paint on her and get it sailed to Anacortes. I've been waiting on good weather to paint

San Juan will be my home stomping grounds so that would be great

Looks like just the cove stripe was painted, that's easily redone with Brightsides.

Someone in the past painted over the gel coat sadly...

Re: New boat owner looking for day ride PNW

You might consider buffing out the gelcoat rather than painting. From that photo it looks like only the top stripe is likely too far gone. Painting is a lot more to maintain in the long run.

I'd recommend classes, I think you'll get more out of them than ad-hoc learning while out with others and it will force you to learn safety things like man overboard rescues. The SailNow class at the Center for Wooden Boats could be a good match because you already have motor docking skills down (which is a big part of ASA 10x classes). SailNow only teaches sailing (the boats are motorless keel boats) and does a good job of teaching sail trim and handling. They have classes on Camano Island (Cama Beach) which sounds like it might be a better location for you.

Private instruction also sounds like a good option, and there are many private instructors in the area.
