Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

As far as I could find there really aren't any name brand 20 to 50 watt panels left. Sharp, Kyocera, and the others have left that market space.

Both of my boats have had cheap panels and they've been working okay and as advertised. We'll see if that changes with time.

Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

I used Solar Cell, Solar Panel, Renewable Energy, Wind Energy, Charge Controller, Solar Trackers, the Sharps I purchased were actually manufactured in Tennesee. Freight ship to commercial addresses will save you some $. I can also second Maine Sail's recommendation for Arizona Wind & Sun, I wasn't familiar with that outfit when I placed my initial order. Good luck!

Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

Been watching the solar market for a few years.
Here are a few links to places I've found.
Solar Panels, PV Systems and Inverters Distributor
Solar Cell, Solar Panel, Renewable Energy, Wind Energy, Charge Controller, Solar Trackers
What I've found intriguing is the flexible panel. 144 watts, 18 feet long (boo), and only
17 pounds (7.7 kgs for our Canadian readers) at around $141.00.

Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

i picked up a marine grade solar panel in mazatlan from a cruiser at a swap meet--this panel had much problem with electrical connections. i could not make it work at all, and had to rewire entirely to learn that.
i bought 3 solar panels bp brand-at the same marine swap meet for a total of 50 usd complete with mppt controller. they rock. btw--not "marine grade"...
i have one kyocera--is a replacement from a city that changes them out yearly due to hail--was free resting--huge 130 wtt panel--i have plenty of incoming electricity from the 3 bp plus one kyocera i am using.....i also have a unisolar semi rigid panel rate d 3.8 amps i would love to test here in tropics--gave me 2 amps in sd.....these are not marine grade, have been around longer than the one i bought that was spozedly marine grade--and my connections are not rotten as were the marine grade
i see no reason for marine grade in something that lives outside normally. check connections regularly--is part of my semi annual checks when i anchor after a passage.
btw--i have been using uni solar flexible housing panels on my ericson for 9 years without problem, and no deterioration....i love that word in conjunction with panels, as i get mine cheap when you guys say it is deteriorated and i plug it in with my bad wiring an dfind it awesomely perfect putting out that which the rating states....
.thanks to you folks for dispo-ing such good stuff....

We ended up buying from Their prices are competitive and they are sailboat focused. They also sell mounting kits. Service was good.

Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

Off-brand durability? Who can say? The fit and finish on mine appears good, but I'm only 2 years in.

Capacity? Depends on how many guests. I've got 170W on a 32-foot cat; overkill for just me, a little short with the wife and 2 teenagers, and yet I don't really want to hang more panels, chewing up free space.

Re: Best per $ solar panel suppliers?

Denise, I purchased this one at Home Depot in Marathon, FL last January for $199 on sale. It works like a charm, keeps the house batteries charged to full capacity and during the day it can run the refrigerator.
