Re: Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

I appreciate having a bimini on my Pearson 28. Some prior owner converted it to cabintop traveller to allow the bimini. There are plenty of photos on my Picasa site (ex. https://picasaweb.google.com/1019357...53623052644722 ) or my YouTube channel:

Re: Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

I think a dodger is your best bet for at least a little shade while underway.

I do have a P30 dodger and bimini in my storage shed, that I'm storing for a friend.
I guess I could open them up and take photos to give you guys some ideas.

I have not installed these pieces on my boat, I'm just storing them for another P30 owner.

Re: Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

I also desire shade on my P30, however, I've never seen a bimini setup on a P30 that I liked. The long low boom and aft traveler make a mess of things. Instead, I decided to make a boom tent for use when anchored. Obviously it doesn't solve the problem completely, but it's better than nothing.

Re: Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

A bimini, dodger, and a connector between the two are all in my plans. My Allmand came with the stainless steel frame, but no fabric parts, so now I'm making them.

In addition to the canvas shops, check out SailRite's kits. If you have a decent sewing machine, SailRite makes it look easy.

Re: Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

It's long been a theory of mine that no one should be allowed to be a naval architect until they have spent a year or two installing biminis and dodgers.

My best suggestion is to contact a couple of marine canvas shops and get ideas and bids from them. Many of them have photo galleries that may have good ideas on design. Get them to come out to your boat and look at the situation.

I recommend spending the bucks and getting stainless framing/fittings and high quality fabric like Sunbrella. That investment will be well worth it unless you are planning on selling your boat soon.

Need some shade, Considering a Bimini,

It can be might hot sailing in full sun in the Chesapeake. Don't want to interfere with the winches, or the traveler. The long boom and its height from the companionway floor are real issues. I'm 6'2" Any P-30 owners really like their bimini? got a picture? Any suggestions, Dimensions would be helpful. Thanks
