You are very welcome Stok. Yep, I did get burned on that one but don't let that stop you enjoying the boat. It's still my design.

The haul looks identical to my Polaris 43. Thanks Bob, I know you got burned on this one but she does sail great.

No problem George. I'll be of what help I can be. If you ever want a hull lines drawing I have that. It should be a fine sailing boat. It has good genes.

Re: 1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter

bobperry, My wife and I are going to attend to the boat in NC during October at which time I will take lots of pictures and post them and/or send them to you. I would just be interested in learning as much about the boat as I can. Thanks for your post! gts1544 / George

Re: 1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter

Yes, I agree. It looks to be a bastard child of mine based upon the Polaris 43 hull. So that essentially makes it a Valiant 40 hull with an additional 12" of freeboard. I don't recall a Ta Tong yard but my relationship with the Polaris 43 program was a very rocky one and I distanced myself as much as possible from their efforts. They had no authority to build that boat and they paid no royalties. It was toio close to a Valiant for me to give anyone production rights. It was supposed to be a one off then the crooked client took the plans to Taiwan and announced he would build it in series despite my feelings and ownership of the design. People often ask me about doing business with "crooked Chinese" but underneath almost all the times I was ripped off in Taiwan is a sleezeball American.

I'd like to see a better photo of the deck if you have one.

I swerved into this discussion and think I may have a bit of information that may help you. Bob Perry has his own web site and consulting firm. Go to perryboat.com/ and you should be able to get the info you need right from the horses mouth. Hope this helps.

Re: 1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter

The HIN is as follows: CTC434010381 which means absolutely nothing to me. Perhaps someone can make some sense out of it. gts1544 / George

Re: 1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter

Am interested in how the HIN number reads? May give some more clues as to the origins. Good genes as one of Bob's wayward charges....many others out there, Union 36. Any more you guys can name?

Re: 1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter

I was led to yachtworld.com by Googling the Polaris 43 only to discover 2 for sale with many pictures. For the most part, the interiors are identical to my boat, to the point that I began to doubt myself to the degree that I went back to my copy of the USCG documentation abstract to reassure myself as to the name of my boat (1981 43' Ta Tong Cape Horn Cutter). Little did I realize that it had an identical twin known as a Polaris 43. gts1544
