Re: Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

Was in Napatree in July and again in August. Draw 4'10". Pretty sure both occasions were mid tide. As noted above there are a couple of shallow spots in the channel after you turn the corner at Sandy Point before Green 7. We didn't touch but it was very close. Other spots were also pretty low so we'll continue to try to go in on a rising tide and take it slow. See the notes on Active Captain. Still one of our favorite spots and the long ride into the anchorage is worth the trip, the beach is beautiful.

Re: Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

I was there in August. I draw 5' and came up the channel about an hour before high tide and touched very briefly then moved on. A mechanic at Dodson's in Stonington told me that the channel had moved maybe 20 feet east after Sandy. This is maybe 100 -500 yards after you make a sharp starboard turn around the end of the island at the Stonington end of the channel (sorry I can't remember what it's called. Anyway, when leaving at mid tide I let the boat drift a bit out of the channel to the east and never touched.

Re: Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

Are you talking about the channel from Stonington to Watch Hill? If so, I'd like to know the answer to your question!

Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

i brought my Oday 272LE thru Jones Inlet last spring (pre Sandy) after we bought it to move it from Lindenhurst to Port Jeff area. I forgot how we ran the tide to get out but depth was not an issue. That being said we draw 3'. The issue was the only way out was thru 7-10' rollers to avoid the shallows soobviously we motored. Id suggest you speak to local fishing boat guys are they are the best source of local knowledge or "Local Notices to Mariners" The notes I have on the Inlet are all pre Sandy though obviously so like i said get some local up to date knowledge.

Re: Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

I was confused with Captree Island in the Great South Bay.
Napatree is just east of Stonington, CT in Rhode Island.

Napatree - Is it accessible since Sandy?

Someone told me that Napatree is not accessible for any draft over 3 1/2' since Hurricane Sandy -- That it won't be dredged until October. Does anyone have further information?
