Is there a wind display in the cockpit? If so, what brand?

Those connectors that look like phone line jacks are also like Ethernet connectors in the computer world. These are probably just that; meant to carry data from a transducer (wind probably in this case) to an instrument or nmea box, from a panel to a monitor in the case of a battery monitor, or some other electronics application. The wires would be too small to carry loads for lights or anything else beyond electronic data. I suspect that the poster who guessed wind instrument is correct as the wires head up the mast. Some wires being left loose just means that they weren't needed, that they were for an instrument or device that was not present on the boat but the manufacturer of the device had built in support or connectivity for. Is there an autopilot onboard? What other instruments are aboard? It's not a Raymarine seatalk connector but maybe Simrad? Electronics, that's my guess.

Not having a picture is difficult to say. It could be for a dedicated wind instrument.

Another thought I installed a junction box located by the mast for disconnecting the wires to everything which is up the mast ( anchor light, spreader light etc. so when we pull the mast they can be disconnected there as opposed to at the electrical panel.

Don't worry, after more than 3 years I still discover things on my boat that I was not aware of ... often hidden underneath blobs of old silicone or car body filler !

Re: It couldn't be a phone line, could it?

Oh, sorry. I've only owned the boat for about 3 weeks. I have no idea of what was previously on board for electronics.

Wind instrument would make sense.

Ok, sorry but I still can't get you a pic. One end (with about 3' of wire) isn't connected to anything. It looks like it is long enough to reach where the VHF, GPS and such would go. There are 6 wires of various colors. It also appears to go up the mast.
