Have been living aboard for 7-8 years on my much modified Pearson Vanguard and am looking for more room. I live and work aboard year round in New England and while the Vanguard is doable, it's short on space.I want to cruise in 3-5 years.
My criteria:
Price range 35K or less
Coastal now but sturdy enough for extended offshore passages in 3 years
Adequate tankage
Prop in aperture (I sail Maine a lot and pot lines are everywhere.
Storage
I like older designs but willing to forgo the Rhodes/Alberg CCA ERA for demonstrably more comfort, liveability and sailing performance. Recently looked at a Bristol 35.5 but the engine access was ridiculous. Looking at a Gulfstar 37 this week.
Boats I like include the Alberg 37, Tayanas of course (but not in my price range), Westsails (but the slow reputation gives me lots of hesitation).
I can handle projects as I do all my own work, but I don't want a basket case.
I'd like to expand my horizons a bit and look at designs different than just the older CCA era boats outlined-all suggestions welcome and appreciated.
