Re: Beneteau Oceanis 38

Well, there were more pictures of the boat released. I'm not sure I love twin helms on a 38 foot boat. Can make the cockpit very crowded.

Comes in 3 formats. Daysailor, weekender, and cruiser editions.

Seems like a way to charge more for features that used to be free...now you have to pay extra for things like staterooms, galleys, and hanging lockers...which I'm sure will be upgrades from the Daysailor model up to the Cruiser model.

Again not a fan of the big breadbasket arch either.

Look at the pictures of the daysailor interior...as a father with a baby girl, I cannot get that edition for the simple fact that my sworn purpose in life is to "keep the daughter off the pole"

Here are a few hints about that new baby, if not revolutionary, it sounds interesting at last.

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 38

You are right about prices. I got a B41 close to the price of a J379. For the reasons you mentioned, both are equal in built and material quality, Beneteau and Jeanneau have the same suppliers and now share many parts. Base prices for a given length are comparable but Jeanneau options and packages pricing is what often inflates prices. .

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 38

While the two do compete, are owned by the same parent company, not positive that these two models are truly going after the same market per say. One of those, while they do, they are two different boats, perform differently, have different style cues etc. At lest locally, Beneteau length for length is lower in price than a jeanneau! Beneteau seems to have that advantage no matter how one slices the cake.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how the new boat looks. The 379 is not as pretty as previous Jeanneau's in the same 36=37' range IMHO!

I think it's going to be a carbon copy of the 41, it should be cute. Certainly a tough competitor for Jeanneau's 379.

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 38

No..... But also very interested it seeing the pictures myself. I wonder if the boat would take more styling que's from the Sense?
