Link is here
home

I'm not smart enough to make the link say anything other than "Home"

$2k should get you a decent Catalina 22. Lots of them around, and you can sail year round with it.

There's a couple on the website for sale.

Dues/moorings at Windycrest are quite reasonable...

Again, you have to deal with the drive, but the harbor is more protected than the one at the south end of Oologah

Good luck!

Re: NE Oklahoma - Available to Crew

Thank you for the tip. I didn't see the link that you referenced.

I may just go buy a $2,000 starter boat and be done with it.

Re: NE Oklahoma - Available to Crew

Windycrest has an excellent youth sailing program. They are nice people. What they don't do as well is positively welcome newcomers like you into the club. You are certainly welcome to sail with them, but what they don't get is how hard it is to be in your position, and trying to get a ride on a boat on race day.

I don't mean to pick on Windycrest, they are a fine group, but they just don't get how important it is to reach out to newcomers. This is nothing unique to Windycrest, or sailing in general.

I'd suggest you go to the website that I linked above, and sign up on the crew list. I would also directly contact the fleet captain for the type of boat you are most interested in and ask for a ride/advice.

I am confident you will be well treated. You will need to be a bit bold and deliberate, however. This is a nice time for sailing in Oklahoma, in general. Take advantage of it.

If you are still unsuccessful, PM me and I may be able to provide further assistance.

Re: NE Oklahoma - Available to Crew

Here's my honest opinion about showing up at the docks. I've been out a few times since my ASA class and the looks/comradely coming from the boat owners was more than discouraging to say the least.

That's why I'm asking on Sailnet until I meet someone who needs the extra hand.

It's a drive for you, but you might have better luck at Windycrest on Keystone.

Bump to the top. Still interested in crewing if someone needs a hand in the Tulsa area.

Re: NE Oklahoma - Available to Crew

Hi AndyJ. If I wasn't on Dad duty I might take you up on that. The local lakes are ideal since I can drive out and be home at night.

Thanks for the offer!

Any interest in sailing at the Lake of the Ozarks? Understand if it's too far to go.
