klacko As the stainless steel supplier to Saga Yachts in Canada (from day 1), I would fully agree with the poor to no 'response'. In fact, most saga customers seem to have had similar dealings over the years as Sparrow.

I have been trying to reach PSC management for over a year, and received nothing but empty promises.

Parts arrived

My midship cleats showed up today, and they look great. The deck plan showing where to put them arrived a week or so ago.

I am only slightly surprised to learn that PSC is monitoring this forum. I got my callback from them the day after I posted about my frustration.

In any case, I have a superb boat and wish PSC nothing but success. I just hope that they have the resources to continue to serve their existing customer base as well as their new customers.

This is the second time I've ordered parts and, forum monitoring or not, the experience has been similar. I've had trouble getting a callback, but when I did get through, quality parts were made/sent promptly and at a fair price.

I think it depends on the dealer as much as the builder. For my PSC it
a fairly easy process (compared to building 2 previous homes), not much
stress, except for writing the check ;-)
It wasn't perfect by any means, but then unlike building a home, you
don't have access to it every day.

That's not how it works, you pay for the hull layup (~20%), then you pay
for the options you selected, then the rest at closing. This is how PSC
does business anyway.

I received a phone call from PSC a few days ago. You are correct about their monitoring chat. I did find an independent supplier in Florida for the cabinet latches that I have been searching for. The 2007 Sailboat Buyers Guide is the best $7 that I have spent in a long time. Pg 239 lists Cabin Components and Furnishings. The latches are being delivered.

The date today is 06Feb07. As an update to the above post. I have received the ordered latches from an independant supplier in Florida and will install them this week. I will not bother PSC with any further inquiries. My apologizes to this group for the needless long and drawn out progression of events concerning a few simple cabinet door hardware components that needed replacement. Its a mind numbing -7 F at the moment and sure glad that I chose heated indoor storage for Judy Ann. Spring is 6 weeks away!

I would prefer not to get overly specific without PSC/Saga being present in this forum. I really don't want to turn this into a one sided airing of any problems I might be having. I know that they monitor chat about their company and today I will send Allan a note that this discussion is occuring just to make sure. My intent in chiming in on this thread was to mention that we too were having a very dificult time getting the company's attention and generally let people know that a company's warranty is only as good as their ability or desire to honor it.

How is your Saga overall? How long have you owned her now? Have you had other issues besides the windows needing rebeding? You received 1/2 the cost of the window repairs, correct? Did Saga have an explanation as to why they were paying half?

Reading DaveMancinis posts and first hand reports it appears that PSC is building and delivering vessels as well as his own yet to be completed PS. It appears that many things are going well for the sailing sport at PSC, right? Camaraderie reported an absolute horror story of a total loss requring years of litigation to resolve. Wouldn't that be the pits? Thanks be to all that is right in this world that it wasn't you or I.

BTW, Camaraderie, thanks for your reply to my question, I suspected that it had to be something like what you posted. "caveat emptor"

Sparrow409 As far as I know, and according to Allan Poole, Saga did not file for court protection in Canada. I am uncertain about the exact status of their legal obligations, but I am very certain about their moral ones.

camaraderie HS...a MERGER does entail support of both assets and liabilities. However...when a company is in BANKRUPTCY...than another may come along and purchase only the assets with the approval of the court. That was not the case with Saga/PS.

Rick...there were a number of costly issues but the big one was the poor bonding of cross members to the hull causing the floors to drop and the loss of support for the rigidity of the hull making it un-seaworthy. Fixable only by tearing the whole hull apart which accounts for the large estimated expense.

Once upon a time, maybe. These days, you never really know what is going on unless you can read the corporate papers. I've known one corporation to buy out the assets of another--and somehow be allowed to "buy" only the name and assets, without the liabilities of the warranty claims, etc.
What looks like a merger to you and me, may not be that simple in the details.
